Robert Scott, a state representative and later Scottsboro's founder, moved to Bellefonte in 1834 and operated the "Bellefonte Tavern."

Scott moved to what is now Scottsboro in the early 1850s. In 1856 he was able to get a Memphis and Charleston rail line constructed across his property.

Jackson County was created by the State Legislature, meeting in Huntsville, on Dec 13, 1819.

The county was named after Andrew "Ole Hickory" Jackson, who was visiting in the area at that time.
